Walrus TV Privacy Policy
We value your privacy. Walrus TV may collect some information that will be used for the platform.
1. User accounts
Walrus TV does not require users to register in order to use the platform, with the exception of mandatory registration to host direct media URLs in rooms. When registering, we will collect the following information from you:
- Username. Your username will be stored in the database and is publicly viewable by anyone using the site.
- Password. Passwords are securely stored as a bcrypt hash in the database. This is used to verify your identity when logging into the site.
- Email. We will use your email to send a password recovery link on request if you ever forget your password. You may change the email associated with your account at any time but if you do not have access to the email then you will not be able to recover your password.
- Profile picture. We will store a direct link to the profile picture which will be seen in the site through, including but not limiting to rooms and profile cards. This is considered public information and you are not required to upload a profile picture as we provide you with a default picture.
- The date and time of account registration. This will be publicly viewable on the user's profile page.
- Chat messages. Messages are temporarily stored client-sided and no messages are stored on the server. When the room closes, all messages that are stored in the client are deleted.
We don’t share any personally identifying information publicly or with third-parties, except when required to by law.
We will never sell your data to third-parties. Ever.
2. Rooms
We collect the following information for rooms and store it temporarily in an in-memory database:
- User information. We keep track of the username, profile picture, last seen timestamp, the rank of the user (developer, subscriber, etc.) and session ID for each user.
- Room name. The room host can set a name for the room and can change it at any given point during the lifespan of a room.
- Room visibility. The room host can toggle whether or not the room will be displayed in the homepage of the site. This can be changed at any given point during the lifespan of the room.
- Media URLs. When the host chooses a media URL, this will be stored and relayed to every other user in the room. This includes but not limited to YouTube, SoundCloud, Vimeo and Twitch. We do not moderate the links being relayed unless there is a formal complaint filed.
- Player status. When the host plays or pauses the player, this information will be stored and relayed to every other user in the room.
Room data is temporarily stored and when the room is closed, the data is gone forever. We will not persistently store any of the room data with the exception of room names that users will have the option to reserve to their account.
The following room information will be stored permamnently for metrics tracking:
- Room ID.
- Room host.
- Room start time.
- Room end time.
- User count. Note: The room usernames will not be stored, only the count of the maximum number of people that have joined during a room session.
- Room visibility status (public / private).
- Message count. Note: The messages will not be stored anywhere permamnently. Only the number of messages sent in a room session.
3. Search APIs
Walrus TV uses APIs from other sites to load content easier into the platform. These sites include:
- YouTube
- SoundCloud
- Vimeo
- Twitch
Walrus TV is not affiliated with any of these services. We are only using the APIs from these services to load content into an embedded widget provided by these services. We only distribute a link to the content from these sites and nothing is stored on the server side. Use of these sites are subject to their own Privacy Policy.
3. Links
Our website may link to external sites that are not operated by us. Please be aware that we have no control over the content and practices of these sites, and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their respective privacy policies. We do not advertise nor endorse these links.
4. Cookies
We use services such as Google Analytics to track the growth of the site. These services may use cookies to gather information from your device.
5. Modifications
Walrus TV may revise the privacy policy for its website at any time. We will notify users of the new changes.
